Two-Day
Workshop Held For
CPI(M) MPs
HARKISHAN
Singh Surjeet, general secretary of the CPI(M) inaugurated a two-day workshop
for members of parliament belonging to the CPI(M). The two-day workshop was
organised at the AKG Bhawan on August
21-22 to equip the MPs with the Party’s understanding of major
political issues and economic policy matters and the problems of the different
sections of the people.
Inaugurating
the workshop, Surjeet stressed the importance of effective work by the
parliamentary group in the new political situation. With the UPA government in
office and the CPI(M) and the Left having the largest number of MPs, the
parliamentary group should actively intervene on all policy issues and in
defence of the interests of the working people. Surjeet exhorted the MPs to ensure that the work of isolating
the communal forces is carried forward while raising the issues which can help
strengthen the movement of the various sections of the working people.
The
first topic taken up in the workshop was the approach to the UPA government and
the major political issues including foreign policy matters. The discussion was
led by Prakash Karat, member of the Polit Bureau.
The
second session was devoted to economic issues and issues related to the CMP.
This discussion was initiated by Sitaram Yechury, member of the Polit Bureau.
The
third session was taken up by issues of different class and mass organisations.
Trade union issues were dealt by W
R Varadarajan, member of the central committee, Kisan and agricultural workers
front by S Ramachandran Pillai, member of the Polit Bureau, women’s issues by
Brinda Karat, member of the central committee, students and educational issues
by Kalol Roy, general secretary of the SFI and youth issues by K N Balagopal,
president of the DYFI.
