Remembers Martyr Khudiram
RESPONDING to the call of central executive committee (CEC) of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), the martyrdom day of Khudiram Bose was observed across the country on August 11. The programmes included jathas, rallies, blood donation camps and cultural programmes etc. It will be recalled that, during our national liberation movement, Khudiram Bose was hanged by British imperialists on August 11, 1908, when he was very young, and he faced death smilingly, like a true martyr. On August 11 this year, DYFI, the largest youth organisation of the country, remembered the legendary martyr Khudiram Bose in order to enthuse the new generation at a time neo-imperialism is spreading its tentacles all over the world.
The
main programme organised by the CEC began at Mahobiui in Midnapore district of
West Bengal, where Khudiram Bose was born on December 3, 1889. DYFI general
secretary Tapas Sinha, West Bengal mass education minister Smt. Nandarani Doll,
and a prominent leader of the democratic youth movement Tarun Roy participated
in the programme. In Kolkata, various unit and zonal committees observed the
martyrdom day of Khudiram Bose where Asitanga Ganguly and Abdul Hai were the
main speakers.
In
Muzaffarpur, the place of Khudiram Bose’s martyrdom, the Bihar state committee
of the DYFI organised a massive rally under the leadership of Umesh Prasad. The
Karnataka and Maharashtra state committees also organised programmes at various
places on the day. In Karnataka, the Mangalore district committee organised
various programmes in which youth leaders Krishnappa Kochady and Mahantesh
participated. In Mumbai, the DYFI’s Maharashtra state secretary Sailendra
Kamble spoke at various blood donation camps and other functions.
In Delhi, programmes were organised at six places, in a big way. The places where the martyrdom day was observed included Mahipalpur, Jahangirpuri, Wazirupur and Sagarpur. In Ghaziabad district, a cultural evening and a jatha were organised. The jatha, which was flagged by the CPI(M)’s Delhi state secretary Pushpendra Grawal, concluded with a massive public meeting and “an evening by the youth for the youth” on August 15. The DYFI’s Faridabad district committee also organised a cultural evening and padayatra involving thousands of rural youth; it was inaugurated by Hannan Mollah, member of parliament. (INN)
