Workers Place Their Demands
THE
Jammu and Kashmir Co-ordination Committee of the Trade Unions (JKCCTU) organised
a district conference on July 20 at the town hall in Anantnag. Over 600
delegates, among whom included including 200 Aganwardi workers, attended the
conference. The conference was presided over by the JKCCTU district convenor
Mohd Afzal while the chairman of Local Body Employees Federation Manan Deva
welcomed the delegates.
Mohd
Maqbool, president JKCCTU while inaugurating the conference stressed the need to
build pressure on the new UPA government in order to make it implement the
positive aspects of the Common Minimum Programme. He said that the formation of
the UPA government at the centre is a positive development at the centre but
cautioned the employees and workers to be vigilant to see that this government
does not continue the anti-worker, anti-employee stance of the NDA regime.
Maqbool
criticised the Mufti government's anti-working class policies in the state.
There has been job freeze and casualisation in government
departments and state public sector units. He demanded the revival of
sick public sector units, merger of 50 per cent DA with basic pay,
regularisation of daily wage employees, anganwadi workers and rebari-taleem
teachers.
The
conference was addressed by veteran trade union leaders Abdul Gani Bhatt,
Hassina Sofi, Mohd Ayub, Abdul Rashid and Najer who highlighted the problems of
respective departments.
The
conference elected 31 member new working committee with Mohd Afzal as president
and Mohd Yusf Paray as secretary. (INN)
