AFTER
having held its meeting for two days, the Jammu & Kashmir state
committee of the CPI(M) issued on June 28 an appeal to the governments of
India and Pakistan to initiate earnest and coordinated measures for bringing
down the level of suffering in the state. This was stated by the CPI(M) state
secretary Mohd Yousuf Tarigami.
Hailing
the then ongoing foreign secretary level talks in New Delhi, the CPI(M) state
committee asked the two governments to direct their joint efforts for sincerely
effecting an internal cease-fire to compliment an already prevailing one on LoC
and international border. The committee felt that this could lead to a
substantial reduction in the level of forcesneeded for internal security and
pave the way for substantive talks, with the prospect for concrete results
emerging from the ongoing peace process. (INN)
