Judicial Commission Immediately: AILU
THROUGH a statement issued by its general secretary Har Dev Singh on June 14, the All India Lawyers Union (AILU) has expressed its apprehension that the statement made by the law minister mooting out a proposal, to which the chief justice of India has consented, totally goes against the concept and requirement of formation of a National Judicial Commission that would be entrusted with the appointment, removal and transfer of members of higher judiciary. The law minister’s statement seems to be a calculated move to sidetrack the basic demand to which all major political parties have not only consented but included in their respective election manifestoes.
This
is all the more alarming in the context of today’s situation where, because of
corruption, the judiciary’s credibility and efficiency has gone down. The AILU
is of the considered view that the government must, in all seriousness, take up
the formation of an independent National Judicial Commission as the first step
toward eradication of corruption in judiciary. (INN)
