LF To Protest US Terror-Tactics In Iraq

THE torture of prisoners in Iraq by the US armed forces and the US occupation of Iraq will be protested against in a mass convention to be held under the aegis of the Bengal Left Front in Kolkata on June 10.

Communicating this to the media at the Muzaffar Ahmad Bhavan in Kolkata, Left Front chairman, Biman Basu said that the US continues to occupy Iraq where they are perpetrating the worst forms of torture against Iraqi prisoners.  Human rights are being violated all the while.  The UN would not utter an effective word in protest.  The mass convention will expose the way the international charter of human rights is being widely abused in Iraq.

In its meeting held on June 2, the Bengal Left Front also resolved to call a meeting of the Left MP’s from the state prior to the budget session.  The pending demands of the state of the union government would be taken up and the MP’s asked to get in touch with the concerned ministries to speed up the process of the union government’s agreeing to the proposals and early.

Constituents of the Front have been asked to deposit any demands they might have of the union government for the development of the state with the chief minister who would take the matters up at the appropriate level with the union government.

Biman Basu also said that the desire expressed by the union coal minister to shift the HQ’s of CIL and DVC from Kolkata was devoid of reason.
