CPI(M) Activist Gunned Down In J&K

SENIOR CPI(M) activist, Ghulam Mohammed Dar, was brutally gunned down by militants in his home in the village Kaharwat in Kulgam district of Jammu & Kashmir on May 22. He was 52 years old and handicapped. Comrade Dar was associated with the Party since 1967 and had been working on the kisan front.

Comrade Dar was targeted by the militants because he was the first person to cast his vote in favour of the CPI(M) in his village ignoring the militants threats. Even the press reported that this was the reason for his being targeted. The militants savagery was on display when they shot Comrade Dar in his head from point blank.

The militants reign of terror against CPI(M) is continuing in Anantnag-Kulgam areas even after the election process has been completed. Many CPI(M) polling agents are being harassed and their houses raided by the militants and their supporters. Some of the CPI(M) members are forced to leave their homes and take shelter elsewhere.

Even as the militants are having a free run, openly roaming around with their guns and terrorising people, the Mufti government is doing nothing. It may be noted the IED blast on the Jammu-Srinagar highway which claimed the lives of around 27 BSF personnel and their families occurred a day after the attack on Comrade Dar.
