Defeat Communal BJP: Basu

ADDRESSING a cultural function organised by the Rajasthani Samaj at Salt Lake township on April 3, CPI (M) leader Jyoti Basu said that the BJP “remained a great danger to the unity-in-diversity that is India, and for the sake of the nation the RSS-backed communal and anti-people BJP must be meted out a big defeat in the Lok Sabha elections.”

Jyoti Basu said that the Bengal Left Front government represented the “diversity that is India and it has remained deep among the masses for the past 26 years.”  “We,” said Jyoti Basu, “need a government at the centre that would not go about putting into action the heinous tenets of religious fundamentalism and would not incite attacks on the minority communities.”

The union government must be one that would not sell the country out to the imperialists, and go about ruining the nation’s economy.  The Left, iterated Basu “has a crucial role to play in the new parliament with their principled, pro-people, and especially pro-poor stand.”

Basu also came down heavily on the BJP’s ‘India shining” and ‘Feel Good’ campaign saying that 80 per cent of the Indian populace would not subscribe to these false slogans that “have started to ring hollow from the moment they were launched.” (INN)
