Committee's Appeal for Election Fund
THE 14th Lok Sabha elections will be held soon. Since 1998, when the BJP-led government first came to power, it has become amply clear that continuance of the BJP rule will be harmful for the country. The BJP-led coalition is nothing but a cover for the BJP-RSS agenda which is a communal and disruptive one. The last five years have seen systematic efforts to penetrate and communalise the institutions of the state and our society. The spread of communal ideology, under the patronage of the state, led to the horrors of the carnage in Gujarat. A BJP-led government means continuing assault on the secular character of the state.
The policies of the Vajpayee government have showered benefits and prosperity for 10 per cent of the people. For the rest, it has been an all-round attack on their livelihood, jobs, availability of cheap food and bearing the increasing cost for education and health. The Vajpayee government has set a record in pampering big business, multinational companies and international finance while the plight of the workers, peasants, agricultural workers, artisans and middle classes have deteriorated. BJP rule has also meant an insidious assault on democratic rights, federalism and freedom of speech and cultural expression. Foreign policy has been reduced to accommodating the United States' global interests.
The BJP alliance has to be defeated to save India from disunity, to protect economic sovereignty and ensure justice for all sections of the people. This needs the formation of an alternative secular government.
The Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has called for a vigorous and concerted campaign to defeat the BJP and its allies. All the democratic and secular forces in the country should work for this goal. The CPI(M) will be contesting around 70 seats all over the country. It will aim to increase the representation of the party and the Left parties.
The Central Committee has decided that all party units should go amongst the people to raise funds for the election campaign. To conduct this electoral struggle successfully, we appeal to all democratic sections of the people, our friends and supporters to contribute to the central election fund of the party.
Cheques/drafts sent to the Central Committee should be in the name of "Communist Party of India (Marxist)" and sent to:
