CPI(M)
To Contest Three Seats In Delhi
THE CPI(M) will be contesting 3 seats in the Delhi assembly elections. The details of seats and candidates fielded are as follows:
Ramnagar (SC Res) Nathu Prasd
Yamuna Vihar Munnu Singh
Mahipalpur Ranjit Singh
The CPI(M), in a press note issued on November 10, appealed to the people to ensure the victory of its candidates on the basis of the record of selfless and consistent struggle by the party and its candidates on the issues and interests of the working people.
The statement called upon the people of Delhi to decisively defeat the BJP. It said, “The BJP is a rabidly communal party with a fascistic ideology. Its central government is surrendering the sovereignty of the country to imperialism. Its policies are blatantly pro-rich and have led to greater poverty, unemployment and marginalisation of the poor. It is responsible for Delhi becoming the crime capital. It has used its control over land in Delhi to evict lakhs of poor jhuggi dwellers. Voting the BJP to power can only mean greater misery for the people.”
As for the Congress, the statement said the state government has faithfully followed the anti-people polices of the central government. Privatisation of power distribution, loot of poor power consumers via the contractor system, dismal state of the rationing, education and public health, refusal to ensure minimum wages for workers, etc, stand testimony to this. It is equally responsible for closure of thousands of small industrial units and eviction of jhuggi dwellers. The Sheila Dikshit government has already announced its intent to privatise water supply, besides declaring its desire to privatise school education in resettlement colonies. There is no difference between the BJP and the Congress as far as their attitude towards the poor and the lower middle class is concerned. “The CPI(M) will effectively expose these anti-people policies of the Congress government during the election campaign,” the statement added.
In the current situation, the presence of a solid block of such members in the assembly as are secular and committed to the cause of poor and lower middle class is essential. The CPI(M) in Delhi is in the process of holding talks with like minded parties keeping this objective in mind. After the conclusion of this process, it will take a formal decision regarding its support to such friendly parties, the statement added. (INN)
