AISGEF Wants PM To Convene
Meet
On Right To Strike
THE
All India State Government Employees’ Federation (AISGEF) has requested the
prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee to convene a meeting of the trade unions to
exclusively discuss the issue arising out of the Supreme Court’s ruling on the
right to strike of government employees.
In
a letter written to the prime minister on October 27, Sukomal Sen, AISGEF
general secretary, made this appeal. He appreciated the prime minister’s
reported statement in the Indian Labour Conference meeting on October 16 that
the SC ruling was not to his liking and that together a way out has to be found.
“This
observation by you is very encouraging as it appears that you are not also happy
with the recent infamous ruling of the division bench of the Supreme Court
arbitrarily negating the right to strike by the government employees.
We
hope you will kindly follow up your welcome observation by arranging a
discussion with the trade unions”, stated Sukomal Sen.
He
pointed out to the prime minister that as a national level trade union
organisation of the government employees and teachers of the country, the AISGEF
along with the Confederation of Central Government Employees’ Association
& Workers has been directly affected by this adverse ruling. He therefore
wanted the prime minister to immediately convene a meeting and invite these two
organisations also so that they can express the opinion of the government
employees and teachers of the country on this crucial issue.
