 CHARTER OF DEMANDS

THE 7th conference of the All India Coordination Committee of Working Women (CITU) adopted a charter of demands of working women. Some of the major ones are:

«     Ensure equal wages and equal opportunities for work

«     Provide maternity benefit for all women workers, including agricultural workers

«     Enact law against sexual harassment and strictly implement the Supreme Court directions on sexual harassment

«     Implement strictly the labour laws in Special Economic Zones

«     Ratify the ILO Convention on Home-Based Workers and enact a law for them

«     Fix national minimum wages as per the 15th ILC

«     Provide crèches at work places

«     Remove blanket permission for night work

The conference decided to conduct an extensive campaign on these demands among working women through local, district and state-level conventions, rallies etc, which would culminate in a massive mobilisation at Delhi in the first half of 2004 and give a memorandum to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha.
