CHARTER
OF DEMANDS
THE
7th conference of the All India
Coordination Committee of Working Women (CITU) adopted a charter of demands of
working women. Some of the major ones are:
«
Ensure
equal wages and equal opportunities for work
«
Provide
maternity benefit for all women workers, including agricultural workers
«
Enact
law against sexual harassment and strictly implement the Supreme Court
directions on sexual harassment
«
Implement
strictly the labour laws in Special Economic Zones
«
Ratify
the ILO Convention on Home-Based Workers and enact a law for them
«
Fix
national minimum wages as per the 15th ILC
«
Provide
crèches at work places
«
Remove
blanket permission for night work
The
conference decided to conduct an extensive campaign on these demands among
working women through local, district and state-level conventions, rallies etc,
which would culminate in a massive mobilisation at Delhi in the first half of
2004 and give a memorandum to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha.
