 BSNL: Hunger Strike Against Harassment

STATE secretaries of the BSNL Employees Union staged a hunger strike on October 13 and 14, in front of the office of BSNL chief general manager in all the telecom circles, protesting against the harassment and victimisation of union members and office bearers.

Four state secretaries, viz those in Delhi, Rajasthan, UP West and A&N Islands, as also a large number of district and branch secretaries were recently transferred from their places without any justification. Also, a spree of harassment is on against union workers. The management is deducting subscription for the ‘recognised’ union from the members of other registered unions, without their consent. It is filing cases against office bearers even for peaceful trade union activities.

The hunger strike took place in Delhi, West Bengal, Kolkata, Assam, North East, Kerala, Tamilnadu, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, MP, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, telecom factories and other circles. BSNL Employees Union general secretary V A N Namboodiri inaugurated the hunger strike at Kidwai Bhawan in Delhi. In Kerala, former Kerala assembly speaker B Vijaya Kumar inaugurated it. (INN)
