Congress Hoodlums Shoot Dead Kisan Leader

PRADESH Congress hoodlums shot and killed Comrade Abul Qasem Ghazi (43) at Gatchha village at Basirhat in North 24 Parganas on September 20. A 24-hour bandh was later observed in the locality at the call of the CPI(M). Comrade Abul was a local leader of the Kisan Sabha and a member of the CPI(M).

Local enquiries by People’s Democracy revealed the gruesome nature of the murder. Deep into the night of September 20, four or five criminals in the pay and protection of the Pradesh Congress, blew open the door of the thatched hutment where Comrade Abul lived. They then grabbed hold of a dazed Comrade Abul, stuffed a bundle of cloth down his throat, held off his wife, his two sons, and two daughters at gunpoint, and proceeded to beat up the hapless victim till they broke the bones of his body. To make sure he would die, they then shot him on the head and chest, and slipped away in the darkness.

With the village bordering Bangladesh, it is suspected that the killers have crossed over and taken shelter away from the jurisdiction of the local police.  The police are sure that a Pradesh Congress miscreant named Khokan Ghazi led the attack on Comrade Abul.

The spate of attacks on CPI(M) and Kisan Sabha workers in the area has gone up with the Pradesh Congress winning the Panchayat Samity in the rural polls held recently. (BP)
