Reception Committee Formed For DYFI Conference

PREPARATIONS for the 7th all-India conference of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), to be held in Amritsar from November 6 to 9, continue apace. A major step in that direction was the formation of a reception committee on September 1, in presence of former SFI president Sitaram Yechury, DYFI president N N Krishnadas, general secretary Tapas Sinha, joint secretary K N Balagopal, its Tripura state secretary Tapas Dutta, central secretariat member Shakti Roy Choudhary, Balwant Singh and others. The state level general body meeting for the purpose took place in the Art Gallery Auditorium of the Academy of Fine Arts, Amritsar.

Other than youth, many doctors, engineers, writers, professors, advocates, small-scale industrialists and other well know personalities also attended.

Addressing the meeting, Yechury said an effective opposition front is the need of the hour to prevent divisions in society along communal lines as the NDA government is following an agenda that is dangerous for the country. He said it was unfortunate that the NDA government was pursuing the agenda of temple, uniform civil code etc that would lead to communal flare-ups, while ignoring glaring problems of the youth and other sections of society.

Balwant Singh said only the warm welcome of the delegates cannot be a measure of the success of the conference; this occasion must be used to build up a strong youth movement in the state under DYFI’s leadership.

Krishnadas said the BJP led NDA government’s policies are accentuating the problems of the youth instead of reducing them. He said the policies of privatisation, liberalisation and globalisation are blocking the avenues of job and education for the youth who have to unite and fight these policies.

Tapas Sinha said the BJP is communalising the society so as to abort the people’s struggle against its anti-people policies, and this may even lead to the country’s disintegration.

On this occasion, Krishnadas and Tapas Sinha also spoke about the importance of the conference, DYFI’s activities all over India, and the all round growth of the organisation since its formation in 1980 in Ludhiana in the same state of Punjab.

Vijay Mishra, Charan Singh Virdi, Raghunath Singh, Ashanand and Hardev Singh also addressed the meeting that was presided over by Roop Basant Singh.

Jaswinder Singh Brar, founder president of Punjab Natshala, a well known cultural organisation, was elected president of the reception committee. Vijay Mishra is its working president and Ashanand its secretary.
