Goons Shoot Down Teacher Inside School
ARMED
assailants swearing allegiance to the Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI)
stormed inside the premises of the Dakhshin Arun Nagar junior high school at
Joynagar, in the district of South 24 Parganas, on September 4 and shot down in
a hail of bullets Comrade Subol Naskar, a teacher and a worker of the Kisan
Sabha.
Comrade
Subol Naskar (50) has been a two-time pradhan
of the Bamangatchi village panchayat.
He was immensely popular among the villagers and had been targeted by the
SUCI for more than a decade. Noting that the ground was slipping from under
their feet in a large part of the Joynagar-Majilpur area, once considered an
SUCI stronghold, the latter party has of late started to resort to wanton
violence to recover the lost ground.
The
CPI(M) leadership has condemned Comrade Subol’s murder in the strongest of
terms while iterating firmly that the CPI(M) did not believe in
counter-violence. A successful 12-hour bandh was observed under the aegis of the
CPI(M) in the area that falls under the Joynagar police station. Close to 30,000
people took part in the funeral procession that was taken out later on September
6 before Comrade Subol’s last remains were consigned to flames. (INN)
