SFI Impleads In SC Case
THE
central executive committee of the Students Federation of India (SFI ) has filed
a petition before the five-member bench of the Supreme Court, constituted to
interpret its judgement in the TMA Pai vs State of Karnataka case, seeking that
its point of view be heard. Hardev Singh, a senior advocate in the Supreme
Court, is appearing on behalf of the SFI.
The
SFI has submitted before the court that merit has to adhered in the admissions
to the professional colleges and that this can be ensured only through a state
government conducted common entrance test. It has also requested the court to
consider the profit mongering nature of the private institutes before
interpreting the fee structure for these institutes. “The court should ensure
that nobody is denied access to education on any reason other than merit and it
should also see that reservations are strictly implemented,” stated the SFI.
In
a statement issued in New Delhi on July 28, the SFI has demanded the central and
all other state governments to intervene in this case and place before the court
their points of view. It felt that it is the duty of the respective governments
to enact appropriate legislations to restrain the private educational
institutes.
