IN
Gujarat, the CPI(M) has taken up cudgels against the recent hikes in electricity
rates, educational fees and edible oil’s price, effected by the state
government run by the BJP.
Responding
to the appeal made by the state committee of the CPI(M), its Rajkot district
unit recently held a vary huge public meeting attended by well over ten thousand
people at the Main Road in Jungleshwar, with the party’s state secretary Arun
Mehta as the main speaker. The meeting was presided over by Umarbhai Sumra, a
veteran leader of Rajkot and one of the founder members of the party in the
district. Sudhir Joshi (NCP), Ramchandran, Jivanbhai Thoria, Dinu Kantaria,
Dahyabhai Gajera, Dalpat Niranjani, Vinoobhai Ghervada, Ismailbhai Ghativala and
Aziz Darji also addressed the meeting.
The
CPI(M) has already chalked out further programmes for protest. These include
demonstrations in front of the MLAs’ houses and offices, demonstrations in
front of government offices, memos, dharnas and gheraos, etc.
The
state unit of the CPI(M) is already in the thick of preparations for the
fortnight long nationwide campaign from August 16 to 31, the call for which has
been given by the CPI(M) Central Committee.
In
Gujarat, the CPI(M) is striving to rebuff the series of attacks being launched
by the state government upon the people, and also foil the tricks the ruling BJP
is playing to divide various sections of the masses in order to prevent a united
struggle from taking shape. The CPI(M)’s effort is directed at bringing the
masses into the streets, to whatever extent it can.
