AILU State Unit Formed In Gujarat
THE
All India Lawyers Union (AILU) recently got a state unit in Gujarat, with
Gujarat High Court advocate Raghunath Chhara and advocate Mahesh Bhavsar as co-convenors.
Chhara,
formely the state president of Samajwadi Janata Party led by Chandrashekhar,
recently joined the CPI(M) with a group of young lawyers. Bhavsar has been
teaching at the Law College, Gandhinagar.
Advocates
from Ahmedabad, Baroda, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Deskoi, Ellora, Paledi, Naroda
and Nadiyad joined the lively meeting that formed the state organising committee
of the AILU, while several from Bhavnagar and Rajkot conveyed their willingness
to join. Veteran CPI(M) leader Subodh Mehta, its state secretary Arun Mehta and
state secretariat member Naginbhai
Patel also addressed the gathering.
While
the meeting discussed some major issues regarding our legal system, both the
convenors expressed commitment to work hard and expand the AILU in 10 districts
of Gujarat within three months. An organising committee was constituted to
contact lawyers in various districts and hold their meetings.
The meeting decided to hold a state level conference of the AILU some time in the second fortnight of September. Some eminent progressive jurists of the state are also likely to attend the proposed conference.
