BENGAL PANCHAYAT POLLS

  CP Greece Congratulates CPI(M)

Babis Angourakis, on behalf of the International Relations Department of the Communist Party of Greece, sent from Athens on May 14 the following message to the Communist Party of India (Marxist), congratulating the latter on the resounding victory of the Left Front in the West Bengal panchayat polls.

Dear Comrades,

WE would like to extend you our congratulations for the important victory of the CPI(M) and of the Left Front in the local elections in West Bengal. We would like also to denounce the ferocious campaign against the communists that led to numerous killings of members, cadres and even distinguished local leaders of CPI(M). The BJP government, the opposition in West Bengal and the involved elements of the vested interests bear tremendous responsibilities for inciting the violence that marked the electoral campaign. Please be so kind to convey our condolences and solidarity to the membership of your party and to the families and relatives of your martyrs.
