INTUC, BMS Decision Unfortunate

 THE CITU has termed as “unfortunate” the decision of the national leaderships of the INTUC and BMS to stay away from the joint call of central trade unions for a massive one day countrywide strike on May 21. This is more so in view of the fact that the eight point demands for the forthcoming countrywide strike action were formulated jointly with the INTUC and BMS.

 The CITU has expressed hope that the leaderships of these trade union organisations will realise the futility of agreeing with the demands but staying away from united action for their realisation. The CITU has expressed the confidence that the trade unions of all affiliations, including the rank and file unions of the INTUC and BMS, would join the general strike on May 21 in a big way.

 As is known, the trade union movement in the country has unitedly taken a great stride against the anti-national, anti-people policies of the NDA government. Almost all the major central trade unions of the country, along with scores of independent unions and federations in banks, insurance and defence industries, telecommunications, central and state governments and other service sectors, have jointly decided to go in for a countrywide strike on May 21. The strike will be preceded by a series of joint countrywide agitations and rallies etc.
