A
HUMAN chain in Delhi was formed by hundreds of people to protest against the US
plans for war against Iraq. The
protest was part of the international call to observe March 15 as a worldwide
protest day to demand that the United States stop war moves and machinations.
At
the call of the `Committee Against War On Iraq', people from all walks of life
joined the `human chain' at Mandi House from 3 30 to 4 30 pm. Among
them were political activists, university teachers, students, industrial
workers, women activists and cultural personalities.
Among
the persons present were Prakash Karat (CPI-M), D Raja (CPI), Surendra Mohan
(Socialist Front), Kunwar Danish Ali (JD-S), Swapan Mukherjee (CPI-ML), Syed
Shahabuddin (Muslim Majlis e-Mushawarat), Nirmala Deshpande (Gandhian), Prof
Mushiral Hassan, Prof Prabhat Patnaik, Brinda Karat and
Syeda Hamid (women activists), Maya Rao and Mala Hashmi (theatre
activists), Saswati Majumdar (president of DUTA) and Rohit (president of JNUSU).
