Step Up Anti-War Campaign

 

Below is a list of some of the joint protests organised against the war on Iraq in the last few weeks. With the US bent upon launching its criminal aggression, it is essential to step up the anti-war campaign.

 

Delhi

November 14, 2002

At the call of the `Committee Against War on Iraq', protest demonstration was held.  V P Singh, Deve Gowda, Harkishan Singh Surjeet, A B Bardhan, and other leaders participated.  2500 people attended.

Chennai

November 30, 2002

Demonstration outside US Consulate  at Chennai. This was a joint protest by CPI(M), CPI, Congress and DPI. One thousand participated.

Andhra Pradesh

January 18, 2003

At the call of seven Left parties, demonstrations were held in Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Vijayanagaram, Kurnool and other centres in Andhra Pradesh.

Mumbai

January 27, 2003

In Mumbai, protest outside US Consulate  by `Forum Against War on Terrorism' supported by Left parties, Samajwadi Party, and Janata Dal was held. 2,000 people participated.

Delhi

February 10, 2003

In Delhi, demonstration was held outside American Centre by the `Committee Against War on Iraq'. Nearly 5,000 people participated.

Kolkata

February 15, 2003

In Kolkata, anti-war march  was organised by the Kolkata Left Front Committee.  20,000 people participated.

Thiruvananthapuram

February 15, 2003

A big public meeting attended by thousands was held to protest threat of war on Iraq. Anti-war songs and poems were sung. This followed formation of an anti-war committee consisting of 300 organisations with Justice Krishna Iyer as Chairman and T M Thomas Isaac as Convenor.

Bhubaneswar

February 18

Joint protest march by CPI(M), CPI, Janata Dal (S) and others.

 

Hall meetings and protest marches have been held in Patna, Kanpur, Jaipur, Mysore Guwahati, Cuttack and other centres by the CPI(M), Left Parties and mass organisations. 

FUTURE PROGRAMMES

A broad-based committee headed by Justice Krishna Iyer  has been constituted in Kerala.  At Ernakulam, on Feburary 27 one lakh people are being mobilised against the war on Iraq. After this rally, in all district centres in Kerala, big rallies  will be organised.

A broad-based committee against war on Iraq is being constituted in Chennai.  Its first public meeting will be organised on February 27.
