AIFAWH Welcomes Raise

THROUGH a statement issued from New Delhi on January 10, the All India Federation of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers (AIFAWH) welcomed the decision of the government of India to implement the enhanced honorarium to the anganwadi workers and helpers from April 1, 2002. It demanded that the relevant government order (GO) be released and the arrears paid immediately.

In fact, this enhancement was declared on February 28, 2002, in the budget speech of the then finance minister Yashwant Sinha. But the government resorted to an inordinate delay in completing the necessary formalities and issuing the relevant GO, AIFAWH general secretary K Hemalata said.

It is only a continuous joint struggles by anganwadi workers and helpers in the country that had led to the announcement of increase in the honorarium by the government last year. However, it is a fact that the enhancement announced was far short of the demands of anganwadi employees and not commensurate with the workload on them, she added. (INN)
