"Save The Nation" Programme Observed In Bengal

B Prasant

AT the call of the state unit of the CPI(M), programmes were held all over Bengal to mark the "Save the Nation" day on August 15. From Darjeeling in the north to the Sunderbans in the south, workers of the CPI (M) and of the various mass organisations observed the day with the putting up of human chains and taking out of marches and jathas.

The highlight of the day was certainly the programme held in the morning across the district of north 24 Parganas where several lakh of people from all occupations joined hands from the Barrackpore industrial belt down into the Sunderbans area between 10 and 10:20 A.M. The torrential rain and the blowing wind could not detract from the undoubted success of the programme.

Reports have come in from every district of Bengal on the successful observance of the "Save the Nation" day and on the great enthusiasm the programme generated among the mass of the people.
