THE outcome of the coming assembly elections in Gujarat will have a direct bearing on the future of the entire nation and hence the importance of ensuring a straight fight against the fascist BJP was stressed by the CPI(M) general secretary Harkishen Singh Surjeet. He was addressing a press conference at AKG Bhavan on August 29 explaining the decisions of the Party Central Committee meeting held in New Delhi from August 26 to 28.

Surjeet told media persons that CPI(M)'s tactical line would be to ensure that straight fight takes place against the BJP. The fact that Congress is the main force against the BJP in Gujarat needs to be recognised, he said. As Gujarat has been made a testing ground for BJP, the democratic forces of the country should rise to defend the secular base of our nation. He said there is a discernible shift away from the BJP among the people of Gujarat. There is also anger against the BJP among the people, said Surjeet.
