CRITICISING
the cabinet expansion undertaken by the Uttar Pradesh chief minister, Mayawati,
the state secretariat of CPI(M) termed it as betrayal of the people. The chief
minister had promised that her government would not have a jumbo ministry and
that only those legislators with clean image will find a place in it. Both these
promises have been broken. The
ministry already consists of 79 ministers and this number is set to increase
with indications that yet another expansion is likely in the near future.
The
legislators with tarnished image and criminal record have already found berth in
the cabinet and those who are left out are going to be placed suitably in coming
expansion. The party secretariat said that this uncalled for “jumbo
ministry” is going to place heavy financial burden on empty state coffers and
the poor people are being forced to pay a heavy price for the unhealthy alliance
of BSP and BJP.
