Vol.
XXVI No. 45 November 17,2002 |
THE
Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) deeply mourns the passing
away of Comrade E M Sreedharan.
Comrade
Aniyan, as E M Sreedharan was generally called, was known for his total
sincerity and dedication to the various responsibilities assigned to him by the
party. His contribution as a member of the Kerala state committee of the party,
as a member of the State Planning Board, his contribution to Deshabhimani
and other party publications and his writings on economic affairs and
contemporary events were all witness to his talent and abilities.
For
the last few months, Comrade Aniyan was battling against the deadly disease of
cancer. He bore his illness with courage and stoicism. His death is a big loss
to the party.
The
Polit Bureau conveys its heartfelt condolences to his two sons, sisters, brother
and other family members.
SURJEET
CONDOLES DEATH
CPI(M)
general secretary Harkishan Singh Surjeet sent the following message of
condolence on November 14 to the Kerala State Committee of the Communist Party
of India (Marxist).
I
AM deeply saddened and anguished to learn of the death of Comrade E M Sreedharan.
During
my last to Thiruvananthapuram, I met him at his sister’s house. He was
bedridden for some time with a virulent form of cancer. Even while battling
against this deadly disease, he was full of concern for the party and its
activities. He also expressed confidence that he would recover soon.
He
was a dedicated communist whose rise in the party leadership was due to his own
devotion and hard work. There is no doubt that he learnt and benefited from the
vast experience of his father, E M S Namboodiripad, and tried to imbue it into
his own style of work. He was soft-spoken and never tried to impose his opinion
on others.
The
party in Kerala and the country as a whole has suffered a big loss.
For
his two children, his departure is another cruel blow, as they had lost their
mother only some time back. I share their grief and pain.
Please
convey my heartfelt sympathy and condolences to his sons, his brother Sasi,
sisters Malathi and Radha, and all other family members. I also convey
condolences to the party in Kerala.

MOURN COMRADE’S DEMISE
THE
news of Comrade E M Sreedharan’s demise has come as a big shock to the
comrades working in People’s
Democracy and Lok
Lahar, central weekly organs of the CPI(M). Comrade Sreedharan alias
Aniyan had been associated with the editorial department of People’s
Democracy for about six years during the 1980s, before he shifted to
Kerala, and had played a seminal role in taking the party’s message to the
people through the paper. We still remember the amicable nature with which
Comrade Aniyan behaved with all of us. We of the People’s Democracy-Lok Lahar family deeply mourn Comrade’s
Aniyan’s demise and send our heart-felt condolences to his bereaved family
members.
