Convene UP Assembly Session Immediately: Surjeet

COMMUNIST Party of India (Marxist) general secretary, Harkishen Singh Surjeet, has demanded that the governor of Uttar Pradesh should convene the session of state assembly immediately in the wake of apparent loss of majority for the ruling BSP-BJP combine in the state. He has also called upon the Congress Party to clearly come out against this tottering government, in such a crucial moment.

Surjeet was addressing a press conference at the Party headquarters, AKG Bhavan, on November 1. Saying that the meeting of the rebel BJP MLAs with the governor has clearly thrown the state government into a minority, Surjeet asked the governor to act in accordance with the constitution rather than following the dictates of his masters - the RSS.

Surjeet blasted the BJP for completely ignoring the fact of its loss of majority in the state and trying to pose as though nothing much has changed. "They talk of moral values, but repeatedly it has become obvious that they have no values at all. Even after being rejected by the people emphatically, they have sneaked into the government", said Surjeet. He also criticised the BJP for making open threats of dissolving the House.

Referring to his meeting with Congress president, along with the Samajwadi leaders regarding UP situation, Surjeet informed that Sonia Gandhi had told that her Party would not indulge in horsetrading but would consider supporting a government if situation arises. Now that such a situation has arisen the Congress Party should clearly come out with its stand, said Surjeet.
