Bengal: CPI(M) Calls For Peace Marches

B Prasant

THE West Bengal state unit of the CPI(M) has asked all district units of the party to organise peace marches throughout the state and ensure that the environment of peace and amity is maintained there. The call was made public through a statement issued from Kolkata, on February 28, by CPI(M) state secretary Anil Biswas.

The CPI(M) statement said at a time when the nation is in the midst of a disastrous economic crisis due to anti-people policy decisions of the BJP-led union government, the Sangh Parivar appears bent on creating communal disharmony. The preparations made by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, one of the adjutants of the Sangh Parivar, to descend on Ayodhya to try and build a temple by force, without bothering to wait for the court’s verdict on the issue, has served to create communal tension throughout the country.

The CPI(M) demanded that the union government must immediately stop forthwith the karsevaks’ Ayodhya march. It sharply condemned the incident in Sabarmati Express at Godhra as the handiwork of miscreants.

The CPI(M) statement said people must remain ever vigilant against terrorism and against all agents provocateurs of communal disharmony. It asked the masses to do their level best to maintain peace and harmony in Bengal and comprehensively defeat the communal forces. (INN)
