ON April 20,
Washington, the seat of US imperialism, witnessed a huge demonstration, in fact
bigger than what the Voice of America said it was. There were about 1,00,000
people at the united rally called by two coalitions, and the Israeli
depredations against the Palestinians were clearly the focus of the
demonstration. Many people from the Middle East also participated in the
demonstration that was covered by all the media. The Associated Press ran a good
photo, showing the huge crowd being addressed by one of the WWP members, Larry
Holmes.
On the same day,
about 35,000 people staged a rally in San Francisco.
The Washington
rally was the biggest ever in the US in support of the Palestinian struggle.
On the same day,
Nepalese prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, now expelled from his party for
having dissolved the parliament, was in Washington to have a meeting with Bush.
The indication is that he had come to beg for more sophisticated weapons to
fight the rebels.
