Yet Another Display of Extremist Barbarism
IN yet another display of barbarism, NLFT extremists recently killed an active CPI(M) and Ganatantrik Nari Samity member and social worker Comrade Rina Debbarma (48) at Joy Krishnapara under Jirania police station, West Tripura. After the extremists shot the lady down, they displayed their barbarity by forcing the local people to let her bleed to death and to incinerate her body without informing the police. Comrade Rina Debbarma, who was also a local panchayat member, has left behind her 15 years old daughter and 75 years old father.
It was about 10 p m on June 20 when a group of NLFT gunmen raided Joy Krishnapara. They called her out with pretended politeness after entering the compound of her house. No sooner had she opened the door of her room than they shot at her and dumped her into the school ground beside her house, issuing a warning to the villagers against taking her to hospital or informing the police. They also ordered the villagers to incinerate the dead body before dawn. After the departure of the extremists, the local people bought her into the house but dared not take her to hospital. Helplessly bleeding all through the night, she breathed her last at 7 a m next morning. The extremists order to incinerate her dead body had to be promptly carried out by the local people.
According to the local police, this barbaric killing was the sequel to her non-compliance with the NLFTs so-called area commanders order to convene a meeting of the INPT --- NLFTs political wing --- in the area and to quit the CPI(M). This order was given about a week ago after summoning some people including her to Khumalwang, headquarters of the INPT-led Tripura Autonomous District Council (ADC). The INPT usurped this vital constitutional body at the NLFT gunpoint in the ADC elections two years ago.
In a statement, the Sadar divisional committee of the Ganatantrik Nari Samity vehemently condemned the barbaric killing of Rina Debbarma. (INN)
