No War No Surrender To

US Imperialism: Surjeet

THE terrorist attack on the Parliament has been condemned by everyone in the country. However, on the pretext of this attack the RSS guided Vajpayee government wishes to push this country in the holocaust of war. These were the observations of the CPI(M) general secretary Harkishan Singh Surjeet.

Addressing the rally Surjeet said that we are worried about the security of the country. The terrorists who attacked the Parliament were citizens of Pakistan. The need of the hour is that diplomatic efforts are made to isolate Pakistan from other countries and create world opinion in India’s favour. However, the Vajapayee government has completely surrendered to imperialist designs of the USA. This has hurt the dignity of the country. Nonetheless the USA is backing Pakistan rather than India.

Lambasting the Vajpayee government Surjeet remarked that this government has not only failed in its foreign policy but is also thoroughly immoral and corrupt. He pointed out that at the time of Kargil war when the soldiers were making supreme sacrifice to defend the country, the politicians in the government were involved in the coffin scam. Criticising the economic policies of the government Surjeet said that the government has failed completely in economic matters. As a result of patently wrong policies factories are being closed down. Moreover, the liberalisation policies are compelling farmers to commit suicide. The government is also attempting to implement hidden agenda of the RSS which is spreading the communal virus. In addition, it wants to change the constitution, amend laws and revise the history of this country.

The CPI(M) general secretary asserted that the BJP is getting isolated from the people. He predicted that the BJP would be routed in the UP assembly elections. The People’s Front would emerge victorious convincingly. The Left and secular forces would get polarised fast and thus the People’s Front would emerge as an alternative to both the BJP and the Congress.

Among others who addressed the rally were the Polit Bureau members P Ramchandran and M K Pandhe, the state secretary Bahadur Singh Dhakad, Sandhya Shaily, Ram Vilas Goswami and Dinesh Singh. Jaswinder Singh presided over the meeting.

This rally was held at a time when the atmosphere in the city was totally vitiated by the sudden announcement of the prime minister’s programme. The city was converted into a police camp. The common citizens in the city were subjected to checking by the police. Even permission for the rally was not granted until two days before the scheduled date of the rally. With the intention of disrupting the programme, a senior official went to the extent of getting a false news published in a local newspaper that the rally was cancelled. The district administration also created pressure for postponing the state conference itself.

Despite all these pressures, the party leadership announced the programme of the rally and with minor changes rally was held. Before the conference began on December 22, the processionists marched from Hazira crossing to Phool Bagh. Thousands of workers, peasants and women participated in the rally.
