Delhi: CPI(M) Stages Dharna  Against  Communalism

CHANTING- “Communalism Down, Down”, hundreds of activists of Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged a dharna at Jantar Mantar today to protest the growing communal onslaught by the RSS-BJP and other outfits of the Sangh Parivar.  The dharna was organised on the eve of the 10th anniversary of Babri-Masjid demolition.

The dharna was addressed by Jogendra Sharma, member, central committee CPI(M), Pushpinder Grewal, secretary CPI(M) Delhi and other leaders of Delhi state committee.

Addressing the gathering, speakers accused the RSS-BJP and the NDA government of beingbent upon destroying the secular fabric of the country. The Gujarat genocide perpetrated by the RSS-BJP state government is an example of the extent to which the RSS-BJP is willing to go in pursuit of its agenda for creating a Hindu Rastra.

The dangers inherent in the communal doctoring the NCERT text books, communalisation of the administration and police forces and heinous attacks by upholders of Hindutva ideology on  dalits as witnessed recently in Jhajjar were laid bare by the speakers.

These attempts at communal mobilisation are accompanied by vicious attacks on people’s livelihood and undermining of the economic sovereignty of the country through the aegis of economic policies pursued by the BJP led central government. The discontent arising against these polices is sought to be diverted into communal channels to prevent the emergence of any viable challenge to them.  The fight against communalism is thus intrinsically linked to the fight for people’s livelihood, the speakers asserted.  The dharna ended with a call to carry forward the anti-national communal forces with greater vigour.

On December 6, a series of rallies, meetings  dharnas and other functions marked the tenth anniversary of the demolition in the capital tomorrow.
