AN APPEAL

FROM time to time, People’s Democracy has been publishing the amounts received at the party centre towards the Gujarat Riot Victims Relief Fund.

But the fact is that these amounts do not reflect the total amount of effort the party has made in that direction.

One reason is that our West Bengal, Kerala and maybe some other state committees have sent and are still sending relief amounts and materials to Gujarat directly. We urge these state committees (and the committees at other levels, if any) as well as our mass organisations to intimate the paper about their monetary contributions on a regular basis. These will be published along with the amounts directly received at the party centre, so that our readers in other parts of the country may also know about their efforts.

As for contributions in non-monetary terms like medicines, doctors’ teams, tents, clothes, etc, small but to-the-point write-ups are welcome. One such write-up on the FMRAI effort has already been published in these columns.

Our Gujarat state committee must also keep us sending succinct write-ups about the relief it is mobilising within the state and the relief and rehabilitation works it has carried and is carrying.
