SFI Sweeps Calcutta University Elections
THE Students Federation of India (SFI) has once more emerged victorious in the recently held elections for of the Kolkata University students union, in all the six campuses. The SFI made a clean sweep in the Alipore, Rajabazar, Ballygunge and Hazra units while it won uncontested all but 38 seats in the College Street campus. The election to these seats would be held on April 11. The SFI has won 549 of the 598 seats for which elections were held this year.
Elsewhere, the SFI emerged victorious after a long stretch in the Kolkata Presidency College where it managed this year to defeat the candidates of the Independents Consolidation (IC). The IC is a motley group that includes a wide spectrum of opportunistic sets ranging from left-sectarian elements to right reactionary groups in the college who had made common cause to cling somewhat tenuously to office.
