Surjeet Condoles Moopanar’s Demise

Harkishan Singh Surjeet, general secretary of the CPI(M), sent the following message to the Tamil Manila Congress leadership on the demise of Shri G K Moopanar on August 30, 2001.

I AM deeply grieved at the passing away of Shri G K Moopanar, veteran leader of the anti-imperialist movement in the country and particularly in Tamil Nadu. I have been closely associated with him for more than a decade and I have always cherished my fruitful friendship with him in dealing with political problems of the country and Tamil Nadu. As a close associate of illustrious Kamaraj, Moopanar will be remembered as a leader with immense organising abilities and political acumen to strengthen the democratic movement in the country as a whole. He had a deep understanding of the political problems in Tamil Nadu. His demise at this time is a big loss to the democratic forces and the party he led. The Tamil Manila Congress and his followers, I am sure, will overcome the pain and agony caused by this loss and I am sure that his followers will carry on his work with the wisdom which was his characteristic. This will be the most fitting memory to Moopanar.

I convey my deep condolences to his wife, son Govinda Vasan and other members of the bereaved family. (INN)
