NFPE Opposes Downsizing Moves

THE National Federation of Postal Employees (NFPE) has expressed vehement opposition to the central government’s ill-motivated plan to reduce its staff by various methods and to privatise the core sectors.

The NFPE’s opposition to the centre’s downsizing moves was articulated by the fifth national conference of the federation, held in Kolkata from October 11 to 14. Members of the NFPE federal council represent all the seven all-India unions of postal and RMS employees, that are affiliated to the NFPE.

The conference was inaugurated by Sukomal Sen, general secretary of the All India State Government Employees Federation on October 11, and Mohd Amin, minister for transport in the government of West Bengal, inaugurated the open session. A colourful, impressive rally was taken out on October 12 evening. S K Vyas, P S Ramankutty, K Adinaryanan, Chamilal Dasgupta, Sharad Bhattacharjee, Sujit Ray, R L Bhattacharya and other leaders addressed the conference.

C Chandran Pillai, general secretary, All India RMS and MMS Employees Union, Group C, was been unanimously elected the new secretary general of NFPE. The national council also elected 12 office-bearers. (INN)
