Surjeet Greets WPK On 56th Anniversary

IN a message sent to Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers Party of Korea (WPK) on the occasion of 56th anniversary of the latter’s founding, CPI(M) general secretary Harkishan Singh Surjeet said the founding of the Workers Party of Korea on October 10, 1945, by Comrade Kim Il Sung, leader of the Korean people, was an important event in history. The history of the Workers Party of Korea is precisely the history of Comrade Kim Il Sung’s revolutionary activities.

After a 20 years long and arduous struggle waged under the leadership of Comrade Kim Il Sung, the people of Korea succeeded in throwing out the Japanese occupationist forces from their fatherland.

In fact, this very 20 years long, arduous anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle under the leadership of Comrade Kim Il Sung became the ideological and organisational base for the founding of the Workers Party of Korea. Even after that, the WPK had to work under unprecedented complex national and international situations. The division of the country imposed by foreign powers, the fatherland liberation war against the invasion of allied forces of imperialism, continuous manoeuvres for aggression and sabotage by imperialism, collapse of socialism in several countries, and the anti-socialist, anti-DPRK machinations by imperialists --- the WPK successfully defended the sovereignty of the country and the achievements of the revolution in the face of all these events.

In his message, Surjeet expressed confidence that the Workers Party of Korea would, under Kim Jong Il’s dynamic leadership, not only lead the Korean people and further consolidate the gains of socialism in the DRP Korea but also achieve the peaceful reunification of the country by defeating the machinations of US imperialists and their puppets. He also expressed hope that in the coming days the fraternal relations between the CPI(M) and the WPK and their anti-imperialist unity would get further strengthened.
