TUs To Hold Protest Actions, Nov 9

THE united movement launched by Indian workers on their five-point demands has received extremely good response all over the country, and the remarkable unity achieved by the trade unions of all affiliations has generated good enthusiasm in all the states.

This was pointed out by seven central trade union organisations, namely, the AITUC, CITU, HMS, AICCTU, UTUC, UTUC (LS) and TUCC, through a joint statement they issued from New Delhi on September 26.

The organisations then said this unity must be further strengthened and consolidated and appealed to all the trade unions in the country to prepare for a countrywide programme of agitation when the ministerial level meeting opens at Doha (Qatar) on November 9.

The International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU) has given the call to observe the day as Global TU Action Day by holding various forms of protest actions to say no to globalisation that hits the interests of common people. The call has simultaneously been endorsed by the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) and World Confederation of Labour (WCL).

The seven Indian trade union organisations extended welcomed to this world initiative and called upon the Indian working class to observe November 9 unitedly, in a fitting manner, so that the united voice of the working class of India is powerfully heard all over the country.

They also asked the Indian workers to highlight their five-point demands on that day by holding demonstrations, rallies, dharnas, etc, and achieve the largest possible mobilisation of workers on the day.

The central trade union organisations expressed confidence that workers belonging to all trade unions would unitedly observe the day in a most magnificent manner and unitedly fight to protect the interest of the working class and the self-reliant development of Indian economy. (INN)
