Chauvinists Kill Two Tribals

INTENSIFYING their drive to launch pre-planned genocidal attacks against the tribals of Tripura with an eye on the next assembly polls, miscreants of the chauvinist United Bengali Liberation Front (UBLF) carried out a bomb attack on a passenger jeep on September 29 morning, claiming the life of two innocent tribals. The attack that was carried out at Teliamura in West Tripura left a few others injured. The attack came alongside the spree of selective slaughtering of CPI(M) and Upajati Ganamukti Parishad (GMP) leaders and activists by the NLFT, an outlawed tribal extremist outfit. The NLFT attacks have claimed close to 50 live, all tribals, over the last couple of months.

When the passenger jeep in question reached Baluchhara, a group of UBLF miscreants, masked in CRPF uniform, hurled a bomb on it. While most of the passengers made good their escape despite injuries, two of them were too incapacitated to move and the racist miscreants butchered them on the spot. One of them was a group D employee of a primary school and the other a postal employee and the son of a CPI(M) local committee member Niranjan Debbarma. Three passengers are still missing. Another three, who had sustained injuries in the attack, were discharged from hospital after first aid.

Tripura chief minister Manik Sarkar, the CPI(M) state secretariat and the GMP central executive committee vehemently condemned, through separate statements, the dastardly attack on innocent commuters as part of an intricate political conspiracy by internal and international vested interests. It is a desperate design to break the unity of the strong and steadfast united and harmonious Left and democratic forces in the state and to demoralise them, the statements said. They also called upon the people of Tripura to crush this conspiracy by maintaining peace and harmony in the state at any cost and by intensifying their political-ideological campaign against terrorism. The chief minister also instructed the police to go all-out to nab the culprits. The GMP statement specifically referred to the spurt in selective slayings by NLFT extremists over the past two months as a part of their two-pronged plot against the CPI(M), the GMP and the Left Front.
