KARNATAKA

More than 15,000 persons of the CPI(M) participated in the picketing throughout Karnataka. According to the reports so far received, more than 4000 activists courted arrest in seven different places in Dakshina Kannada district. More than 3000 activists participated in the picketing in Kolar, 1800 in Gulbarga, 1500 in Raichur and Koppal each and 1000 at four places in Bellary. In Ramdurya of Belgaum district, more than 2500 workers participated in the protest actions.

In Bangalore, inspite of the drizzle, thousands of activists took out a procession led by state CPI(M) secretary and Central Committee member S Surya Narayan Rao. When the procession was moving towards the Raj Bhavan for picketing, the police stopped it midway and arrested more than 300 activists. Reports from Dharwar, North Canara, Tumkur, Bijapur, Coorg, Hassan, Chickamagalur and other districts, where picketing took place, are awaited. (INN)
