Surjeet who is currently abroad has in a letter written to B.V. Raghavulu, Secretary, Andhra Pradesh state committee CPI(M) , sent the following condolence message:

I am deeply grieved at the passing away of Comrade Hanumantha Rao. He was a stalwart of the CPI(M) and the communist movement. From 1953, Com. M H has been in the leadership of the all India Party and he made a remarkable contribution to building the Communist Party.

I recall his important role in the fight against revisionism and in defence of Marxism-Leninism. At the time of the naxalite challenge Comrade M H stood like a rock in defence of the party in Andhra Pradesh. All through his life Hanumantha Rao fought for building the Communist Party on Marxist-Leninist lines. He was a valued colleague in the Central Committee and later in the Polit Bureau.

His death is a big loss for the Party and the Left movement.

Please convey my heartfelt condolences to Comrade Udayam and all his family members.

Yours fraternally
