Condolence Messages
On July 11, CPI general secretary A B Bardhan sent the following message to Anil Biswas, secretary of the West Bengal state committee of the CPI(M), condoling the death of Comrade Sailen Dasgupta.
GRIEVED at the passing away of Comrade Sailen Dasgupta, chairman, Left Front in West Bengal and member of the CPI(M) Polit Bureau. His death is a great loss not only to the CPI(M) but also to the entire Left and communist movement.
The CPI pays its respectful homage to Comrade Sailen Dasgupta.
Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav also condoled the death of Comrade Sailen Dasgupta. Below we give a translation of his message of condolence, sent in Hindi.
I FELT deeply sad at the sudden demise of communist leader Comrade Sailen Dasgupta. He had been struggling for the interest of the exploited, downtrodden, workers and the oppressed all through his life.
Discharging his duties at various important levels in the CPI(M), he strengthened and forged ahead the communist movement in India. In his demise, we have lost a front-rank fighting and popular leader who was dedicated to the interest of the exploited and oppressed masses, and the loss is irreparable. His demise means the loss of a top leader in our public life, particularly of the Left movement.
In this hour of grief, I extend my heartfelt sympathies to his family. I also feel sad over the loss caused to the CPI(M), and pay homage to the departed soul on my personal behalf and on behalf of the Samajwadi Party.
In a separate message, Samajwadi Party general secretary, Amar Singh, also condoled the death of Comrade Sailen Dasgupta.
I WAS shocked to learn about the untimely demise of Mr Shailendra Dasgupta, senior CPI(M) leader, senior member of Polit Bureau and the chairman of the Left Front Committee of West Bengal.
He was one of the most progressive leaders of the country and was a true representative of the working class, downtrodden and suffering masses.
He was indeed an institution by himself.
Death is a sad reality, but his passing away has left a great void in our hearts, which is going to be very difficult to fill.
Since Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav is presently travelling in remote areas of Uttar Pradesh, he has directed me to convey his heartfelt condolences.
May God give his comrades and family the strength to bear this loss with courage and fortitude and may his soul rest in peace.
Surinder Sangha sent the following message of condolence on behalf of the Indian Communists Association (Marxist) in Canada.
WE express our grief at the passing away of Comrade Sailen Dasgupta, member of the Polit Bureau of CPI(M) and chairman of the Left Front committee in West Bengal. His death is a big loss to the party and the Left movement. We pay respectful homage to this outstanding leader. Please convey our heartfelt condolences to his wife, daughter, son and other family members.
