THE Kerala state committee of the CPI(M) has decided to take out two jathas, one from Parassala and another from Kasargode, on foot, to highlight the achievements of the LDF government during the last five years and to educate the people about the adverse effects of the centre’s anti-people economic policies and the communalism being stoked by it.

The jatha from Parassala will be led by the party's Central Committee member, M A Baby. It will commence its journey on January 8. The Kasargode jatha will be led by the party's state secretariat member Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and will start on January 10. The Parassala jatha will be inaugurated by Kerala chief minister E K Nayanar, and the Kasargode jatha by the CPI(M) state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan. Both the jathas will converge at Thrissur on January 30, anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination.

The jathas will include the party's state committee members, MPs, MLAs and other leaders. Each jatha will be accompanied by 1000 men and women activists throughout their journey.

Before these jathas reach the district centres en route their way, the party will organise district level marches, including district and area level leaders of the party.

The two jathas will urge upon the people of the state to prepare for further struggles against the centre’s devastating economic policies and communalisation drive. The latter’s import policy has landed the state into a grave crisis. The centre’s drive to implement the RSS agenda has caused widespread fear among the people. Through the jathas covering all the 140 assembly constituencies, people of Kerala will be informed about the centre’s ruinous policies and also the people-friendly steps taken by the state government during its tenure in the last five years.
