Comrade Shaily Remembered

HOMAGE was paid to Comrade Shailendra Shaily, member of the central committee of CPI(M) and secretary of the Madhya Pradesh state committee who expired on August 7, at a condolence meeting held at the party central office AKG Bhavan in New Delhi on Thursday evening. He was remembered as a brilliant and promising leader whose life ended in a tragic manner.

The meeting was presided over by Samar Mukherjee, chairman of party control commission and addressed by general secretary H S Surjeet and Polit Bureau member Prakash Karat.

Surjeet deeply regretted the loss of Comrade Shaily who had such a great potentiality. He said the contribution made by Comrade Shaily in developing the party would be remembered forever and that his demise is a great loss not just to Madhya Pradesh committee but to entire party.

Prakash Karat in his address termed Comrade Shaily’s death as very tragic. He said " it is very tragic that such a promising comrade who commanded respect from all reached a point where he committed suicide". Recalling the rise of Comrade Shaily as an effective propagator of Marxism, he said that due to his qualities the party had belief that he would play a key role for the development of party in the entire northern region. In fact very recently it was decided that Comrade Shaily would guide the Chattisgarh state committee also, revealed Prakash Karat.

Samar Mukherjee, who was looking after party affairs of Madhya Pradesh committee at one point of time, recalled his memories of Comrade Shaily. He said he was deeply pained to learn of Comrade Shaily’s death. He was a good agitator, effective teacher of Marxism and had many other qualities by virtue of which he had developed into a good party leader.

Samar Mukherjee read out the Polit Bureau condolence resolution and then a two minute silence was observed by the gathering as a mark of respect to Comrade Shailendra Shaily.
