Meet Expresses Solidarity with the Korean People
A public meeting organised by the 'All India Indo-Korean Friendship Association' and 'Indian Committee For Support of Reunification of Korea' has expressed solidarity with the Korean people in their efforts for peaceful reunification of their country without any outside interference.
In a resolution adopted by the meeting, the people and government of DPRK were assured of continuous support in their just struggle for getting compensation from the US for the atrocities it committed during its invasion in 1950.
The meeting was held on July 24 in New Delhi, on the occasion of the "Month of International Solidarity with the Korean People" which is observed by all peace loving and democratic forces from June 25 to July 27 through out the world. These two dates mark the anniversaries of US aggression against Korean people in 1950 and of the Korean peoples' great victory defeating the aggression in 1953.
The meeting was attended by the Charge De Affairs of the embassy of DPRK Kim Sok Chol, CPI(M) politbureau member E Balanandan, Om Prakash Mantri, general secretary of Indo Korean Friendship Association and others. It was presided over by Debabrata Biswas, Forward Block general secretary.
The meeting expressed grave concern that in defiance of world public opinion and international agreements the United States continues to maintain and reinforce its presence in South Korea and felt that this remains the main stumbling block in the way of peaceful reunification of two Koreas. It also expressed full support to the June 15 joint declaration signed by the heads of North and South Korea last year in Pyongyang and termed it as 'a landmark declaration in the history of divided Korea'.
