School for CC Members Held in Hyderabad

 

IT was the first time in the history of the party that a school for Central Committee members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) was held. This five day school began in Hyderabad on December 14 and those attending it included general secretary Prakash Karat, Polit Bureau members Sitaram Yechury, S R Pillai, Brinda Karat, Mohd Amin and Nirupam Sen, and others.

 

Polit Bureau member B V Raghavulu, who is the convenor of the Education Subcommittee of the Central Committee, acted as the principal for the school. The school for CC members was conducted in two phases. The first phase, which began at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram in Hyderabad, was attended by 36 CC members while the remaining CC members would attend the second phase which would be held in Chennai in January 2011.

 

The subjects covered in this school included Imperialism and Contemporary Capitalism; Science, Philosophy and Dialectics; and Agrarian Relations: Changes under Capitalism. The teachers included Professors Prabhat Patnaik and C P Chandrashekar, Dr T Jayaraman, Prabir Purkayastha, Professor V K Ramachandran and Dr Venkatesh Athreya.

 

Speaking to People’s Democracy on the occasion, Prakash Karat said this school was held in line with the decision taken by the extended Central Committee meeting at Vijayawada to raise the political ideological understanding of all party members at all levels through party schooling.
