Sitaram Yechury attends Birth Centenary Commemoration

As a part of these centenary observations, Sitaram Yechury, Polit Bureau member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) is one of the two foreign invitees, who personally knew Comrade Alvaro Cunhal, and were invited by the PCP to participate in the Congress on the Life and Work of Comrade Alvaro Cunhal organised on  October 26-27, 2013, in Lisbon. Sitaram Yechury will be presenting a paper on 'Capitalism, Its Limits and Socialism as Alternative' in the Congress.

Comrade Alvaro Cunhal visited India in the immediate aftermath of the collapse of Soviet Union and the East European socialist countries. He had extensive discussions with the CPI(M), at our headquarters on July 15, 1991. A joint communiqué was issued by both the parties upholding the validity of Marxism-Leninism and analysing the factors that led to the collapse of the socialist states in Europe.
