Left Front Will Launch

Movement in West Bengal

THE Left Front in West Bengal has decided to build up wide movement on crucial issues affecting peoples’ lives. Left Front leaders met on 15th October and chalked the outline of the movement. Price rise, distress sale by the peasants, atrocities against women, security and defence of workers’ rights will be issues on which campaign will be organised from grassroot level. The attack on democracy, terrorisation by the ruling party, forcible takeover of elected bodies by TMC will also form a major part of the campaign. Step by step campaign from local levels to Kolkata will be organised. Left Front will also mobilise in Delhi on the demands of the people of the state. There will be a massive rally in Brigade Parade Ground in early next year, the date of which will be decided later.

Meanwhile, AIKS has decided to step up movement on burning issues of the peasantry and the rural people. Left peasant organisations have already started a campaign against attack on the rights of the peasants. Small and marginal farmers in the state are under constant threat in the state. Peasants are not getting remunerative prices for their products. AIKS will also take up the issue of wage increase of the agricultural workers in the coming harvest season. Thousands of peasants have been badly affected by heavy rains and flood. AIKS will step up movements demanding loan waiver and State support for the affected peasantry. AIKS has also decided to intensify campaign against communalism which is disturbing the peoples’ unity.
